Yap FM - The Yap State Historic Preservation Office (YHPO), HPO Officer Aloysius Guchbuw accompanied by the Acting Director John Waayan Fillmed of the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs (DYCA), Public Information Officer Arlene Namar, and the Gender Support Officer Jessica Fas, attended four closing ceremonies from October 6 through October 9, officially marking the completion of four cultural restoration projects across Yap.
The projects, which were completed in September, focused on the restoration and preservation of traditional structures that hold cultural and historical significance within our local communities.
The restoration projects included the repair of a traditional house roof in Makiy, the restoration of traditional dancing platforms in Riken, the restoration of a meeting platform in Nimar, and roof repairs to a traditional house in Chool, Maap.
The closing ceremonies provided an opportunity to formally recognize the completion of the projects and highlight ongoing efforts to preserve Yap’s traditional architecture and cultural heritage.
Through these restoration initiatives, YHPO and its partner agencies continue to support the protection and preservation of traditional structures and cultural spaces that serve as important gathering places and reflect the customs and heritage of our communities.
The successful completion of the four projects underscores the importance of continued collaboration between government agencies and local communities in preserving Yap’s cultural heritage for present and future generations.
