Yap State Diarrheal Outbreak Situation Report #6

Yap FM - As of September 10, 2026, 5 new cases, including 4 pediatric cases and a 43-year-old male, were encountered at OPD Main Hospital presenting with diarrhea and vomiting, with none of them being admitted.

The cumulative case total has reached 159, with pediatrics accounting for 77% of all cases. To date, 10 OPD Main Hospital patients have been admitted, of whom 8 are pediatric.

Sentinel sites reporting verified cases are OPD Main Hospital (97), Ifalik Dispensary (51), Lamotrek (6), Faraulap (3), Woleai (1), and Fais (1). An additional 39 cases from Elato (16) and Satawal (24) remain indeterminate and are excluded until details are available.

Laboratory findings identified multiple enteric pathogens, including Rotavirus, Sapovirus, E. coli, Giardia lamblia, and Salmonella-often as co-infections in positive cases.

The accompanying epidemic curve highlights a sharp increase in cases on August 31, followed by fewer encounters in the subsequent days leading up to the date.
