Yap FM - On Monday, December 8, 2025, Yap EpiNet declared an outbreak of influenza-like illnesses due to the increase in ILI incidences reported in the EpiWeek 49 report. An unusual increase in ILI was detected in the outer islands, namely Woleai Atoll, Lamotrek, and Elato, through ongoing
monitoring by surveillance following the diarrheal outbreak. On December 07, 2025, OPD Main Hospital encountered a total of 49 ILI cases and continued to the day of the ILI outbreak declaration by EpiNet.
Influenza illness is defined as a sudden onset of fever (either subjective or measured) along with cough and/or sore throat. The sentinel sites that have reported ILI cases so far are OPD Yap Mainland Hospital, Satawal Dispensary, Elato Dispensary, Lamotrek Dispensary, Marbaa CHC, and Gagil CHC.
As of the last report to today, January 7th, 2025, 14 new cases were reported by Gagil CHC, Lamotrek Dispensary, bringing the total to 720 cases reported since November 16, 2025.
The individuals encountered were presented with symptoms such as fever, cough, and runny nose, with some having additional symptoms such as sore throat, headache, body aches, and chills. The majority of these cases were reported at the Lamotrek Dispensary.
Lab results remain at a cumulative total of 58 positive cases of Influenza A, two of them also testing positive for Influenza A (H3), and three additional cases confirmed for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV).
Decline in influenza reports has been observed from the mainland (Yap), while the Outer Islands Dispensary has reported an increase in ILI cases. A total of 12 sentinel sites in the Outer Islands have indicated an increase in ILI cases, but some of the islands have not shared details on their reported numbers, so they were not included in this report.
