Yap FM - The Yap State Legislature's Committee on Finance held a public hearing on Thursday, August 6, to review Governor's Communication No. 11-599, which seeks approval of Fiscal Year 2026 supplemental budget requests, including new funding for paved road maintenance.
The hearing took place at 2:00 p.m. in the Legislature Chamber. Witnesses included the Director and staff of the Department of Public Works and Transportation (PW&T), the Chief of Budget, and Vice Chairman of the Committee on Finance, Senator Ann-Marie Laamar
Committee members examined the proposed funding request and received testimony from government officials before continuing their review. The committee will make its recommendation to the full Legislature following its deliberations.
Supplemental budget requests are typically submitted when additional funding is needed beyond the amounts approved in the annual budget. Lawmakers will evaluate the necessity of the proposed appropriations, available funding sources, and the potential impact on government operations before making recommendations to the full Legislature.
The proposed funding for paved road maintenance is expected to address the ongoing upkeep of Yap's road infrastructure, an essential service for ensuring safe transportation, protecting public assets, and supporting economic activity throughout the state.
