Public Health Advisory: New COVID-19 Case and Flu Update
The Department of Health wants to let everyone know that the laboratory had confirmed a new case of COVID-19 through lab testing as of last week. The person showed symptoms such as cough, runny nose, sore throat, and sneezing, which are common with COVID-19 and Flu.
Additionally flu cases continue to be seen at the outpatient department and the community health centers. There may be more cases in the community that are not yet seen at health centers or hospitals, so the actual number of cases could be higher and remain unknown as of this report.
Some tip notes:
Flu usually comes on suddenly with fever, chills, body aches, tiredness, cough, sore throat, and a stuffy or runny nose.
Get the annual flu vaccine if available in your area
Keep your environment well-ventilated
COVID-19 can have similar symptoms but often includes loss of taste or smell and can sometimes cause more serious breathing problems.
Get vaccinated against COVID-19 if eligible
Monitor your health and seek testing if you experience symptoms or have been in contact with a confirmed case.
Both illnesses spread easily, but they are caused by different viruses or germs.
To protect yourself and others, please continue to practice the following measures:
Wearing a mask when feeling sick or in mass gatherings
Washing your hands regularly with water and soap for at least 20 seconds
Using hand sanitizer with a least 70% alcohol when soap and water are not available
Maintaining physical distance of at least (3 feet) from others who are tested positive for COVID-19
Avoid large gatherings or crowded places
Covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze with tissue or your elbow
Disposing of used tissues properly and washing hands afterward
Drinking plenty of fluids like coconut juice and water to stay hydrated
Eating health, balanced meals rich in fruits and vegetables
Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touch surfaces daily
Avoiding touching your face, especially eyes, nose, and mouth
Staying home and seeking medical advice if you feel unwell or develop symptoms
Report or get medical help for people who are experiencing signs and symptoms for COVID-19.
Let’s all do our part to stay safe and healthy. If you feel sick, see a doctor and get tested. Together, we can help prevent the spread of these diseases.
