PUBLIC ADVISORY: TAGRENG CANAL – BOAT TRAVEL SAFETY

The Yap State Government is advising all boat operators, fishermen, and other canal users to exercise extreme caution when traveling through the Tagreng Canal, approximately 100 meters north of the Tagreng Bridge.

A recent visual assessment confirmed that landslide debris, sediment, trees, and other materials have partially obstructed the canal. The obstruction has reduced the available channel width and water depth.

Boat Users Are Advised To:

• Avoid traveling through the affected area whenever possible, particularly during medium to

low tide.

• Exercise caution due to the risk of grounding, especially for shallow-draft boats.

• Watch for floating debris, submerged materials, and fallen trees within the canal.

• Do not attempt to cross or remove the obstruction yourself.

• Use an alternative route where available until the canal has been cleared and deemed safe.

• Be especially cautious following heavy rainfall, as the surrounding slopes remain saturated and

additional landslides may occur.

The Yap State Government, through the appropriate agencies and communities, is working to address the obstruction and assess the safest way to restore normal access.
