According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the National Weather Services and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, there are two Tropical Disturbances bringing rain and storms to western Micronesia. These are called Invest Area 99W (near Palau) and Invest Area 90W (south of Woleai). Right now, they are not strong and are not expected to become tropical storms in the next few days.
Both Tropical Disturbances are moving slowly to the northwest and are not well organized at this time.
There is a small chance that one of them, especially 90W, could become stronger early next week but this is not guaranteed. This might happen when it gets closer to the Philippine Sea Southwest of Yap and Palau.
99W is located west of Yap, north west of Palau, 90W is located South of Woleia and south East of Yap main Island and are both rated “sub-Low” for development meaning that the significant development into a tropical cyclone (Tropical depression) is not expected in the next few days.
For now, this weather will bring rainy and stormy weather to the islands of Yap. People can expect heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.
People in the area should stay alert and follow updates from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and local weather offices in Yap.
The Public Information Officer, Media Division and the Website Office at DYCA will continue to work with our local Disaster Coordinating Officer on the latest on these two disturbances and will continue to update the general public as updates are available.
