Yap FM - On Sunday, August 9, UNICEF and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) conducted community outreach activities in Maap and Gagil to engage communities on water tanks and the importance of strengthening water security ahead of the upcoming El Niño conditions.
The outreach is part of a project funded by the Government of Japan and implemented jointly by IOM and UNICEF to support communities in preparing for potential water shortages and other impacts associated with El Niño.
During the outreach, community members received information on the water tanks, their intended use, and the importance of proper water management and conservation. The activities also provided an opportunity for UNICEF and IOM to engage directly with communities, listen to their concerns, and promote preparedness for the anticipated dry conditions.
Access to reliable and safe water is particularly important during periods of prolonged dry weather. By supporting communities with water storage capacity, the project seeks to enhance their resilience and help ensure access to water when supplies become limited.
The initiative reflects the continued commitment of the Government of Japan, IOM, and UNICEF to supporting communities in building resilience to climate-related challenges and strengthening preparedness for El Niño.
Through these efforts, communities in Maap and Gagil are better positioned to manage water resources and prepare for the potential impacts of the upcoming El Niño period.
