Yap FM - A delegation from Yap State participated in the 2026 Micronesian Ministers for Women Conference (MMWC), held August 3–5 in Palikir, Pohnpei.
The Yap delegation included Ms. Linda M. Teteth of the Yap Women’s Association, Ms. Melliana Lemwaiushib of the Neighboring Islands Women’s Association, Ms. Patricia Gureb, and Mr. John W.K. Fillmed of the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs
The MMWC provides a regional platform for Micronesian countries and partners to discuss shared gender-equality priorities and strengthen cooperation. The 2026 conference built on the outcomes of the 2017 and 2024 conferences and reaffirmed commitments under the Micronesian Islands Gender Equality Framework and the Revitalized Pacific Leaders Gender Equality Declaration.
Over the three days, participants shared progress, challenges, and lessons learned in advancing gender equality and reviewed the implementation of the 2017 Jined Kiped Declaration and 2024 An Towepo Declaration. Discussions also focused on strengthening partnerships among Micronesian governments, civil society, CROP agencies, and other stakeholders.
The conference concluded with efforts to identify actionable priorities, innovative strategies, and a forward-looking roadmap to address emerging gender issues and sustain progress toward gender equality across Micronesia.
Yap State’s participation reflects its continued commitment to regional cooperation and to advancing opportunities, empowerment, and equality for women and girls.
