ADB Representative Conducts Gender-Based Violence Training in Yap

Yap FM - On Monday, September 21st, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in collaboration with the National Department of Transportation, Communication and Infrastructure (DTC&I), conducted a two-day training on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) as part of the ADB Sustainable and Resilient Road Improvement Project.

The training began on Monday, September 21, with ADB Representative Ms. Emma and key DTC&I staff leading discussions focused on strengthening awareness, prevention, and appropriate responses to gender-based violence and SEAH.

The first day of training was held at the Small Business Development Center from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Key partners from Yap Proper participated in the session, including the Yap Women’s Association, Division of Civic Affairs, Anti-Human Trafficking, Project Management Office, SMEC, and Shandong Inc.

Participants were introduced to the risks and impacts associated with SEAH and discussed appropriate ways to respond when an individual is in need of assistance. The training emphasized the importance of recognizing potential risks, providing appropriate support, and connecting affected individuals with the proper services and authorities.

The second day of the training was held at the Yap Women’s Association Conference Room. Participants included representatives from the Neighboring Island Women’s Association (NIWA), Yap Women’s Association, Division of Civic Affairs, Anti-Human Trafficking, Project Management Office, and SMEC.

Discussions during the second day focused on domestic violence, gender-based violence, and related issues. Participants also learned about appropriate procedures for responding to cases, supporting individuals affected by violence, and identifying available resources and agencies where individuals can seek assistance.

The two-day training provided an opportunity for government agencies, community organizations, project partners, and other stakeholders to strengthen their understanding of gender-based violence and improve coordination in responding to cases.

The training also highlighted the importance of continued collaboration among government agencies and community partners in promoting safe and supportive environments and ensuring that individuals experiencing violence are appropriately assisted and connected with available services.
