Charting Yap's Economic Course: Public Hearing on Nomination of John Sigrah for R&D Directorship Monday, April 29, 2024// DYCA PIO

Colonia, Yap – A public hearing was held to discuss the nomination of Mr. John Sigrah for the new directorship for the Department of Resources & Development(R&D) on Monday, April 29th, at the Legislative Chamber. Present at the hearing included Governor Charles Chieng, Speaker Nicholas Figirlaarwon, Vice Speaker Theodore Rutun, Senator John Mafel, Senator Liyon Sulog, Senator Puis Talimeisei, Chief Litigator Jesse Ralgmar, the Council of Pilung(COP) Administrative Officer(AO) Brian Ramngen, the Council of Tamol(COT) Chairman Paul Marlul and staff Jochim Saumar Junior, and Legal Counselor Genevieve Mangefel—additionally, nominee John Sigrah and his wife Janet Sigrah.


During the session, Governor Chieng, Speaker Figirlaarwon, and esteemed senators underscored the significance of the Department of R&D in overseeing various sectors critical to Yap State’s economy. Mr. Sigrah, the nominee, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and emphasized collaboration and collective effort in addressing the challenges ahead if selected. Discussions encompassed topics ranging from food sustainability and local produce documentation to consumer protection and marine resource management.


The public hearing provided a platform for stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue regarding the nominee’s suitability for the position and the future direction of the Department of R&D.
