FSM and IOM Hold State-Level Migration Policy Consultation in Yap Wednesday, June 25, 2025, /// DYCA PIO

YAP, FM —The Government of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), held a state-level consultation workshop yesterday June 24, 2025 at the Yap Small Business Development Center as part of its efforts to develop a National Migration Policy.

The workshop, supported by the IOM Development Fund, brought together government officials, the Yap State Attorney General, and IOM staff to review and validate key elements of the draft policy. Mr. David Gakere Ndegwa led the session, guiding participants through the policy framework and discussions.

The upcoming National Migration Policy aims to ensure that migration in the FSM is safe, well-managed, and supports the country's long-term development. It also addresses challenges like climate-induced displacement and the need for stronger services in education, health, and infrastructure.

This initiative, overseen by the FSM National Migration Policy Taskforce with technical support from IOM Micronesia, is part of a broader push to align migration governance with the FSM Constitution, national laws, and the 2024–2043 Strategic Development Plan.
