Ganir Bridge Closed Immediately Due to Safety Concerns

Thursday, July 30, 2026 /// DYCA PIO

Yap FM - Earlier today, July 30th, the Office of Planning and Budget has issued a Construction Notice regarding the closure of the Ganir Bridge to all pedestrian traffic with immediate effect following the discovery of additional structural sagging, prompting authorities to take urgent action to protect public safety.

The closure comes ahead of the planned demolition of the existing bridge as part of the ongoing bridge replacement project being undertaken by Shandong Hengyue Municipal Engineering Co., Ltd. (SHMECL).

According to project officials, recent inspections identified further sagging of the bridge, requiring the installation of additional temporary supports. As a result, the project engineers has directed that the bridge be closed to all pedestrians until further notice to minimize the risk of accidents before demolition work begins.

The bridge is expected to remain closed throughout the demolition and reconstruction period, with the project currently scheduled for completion by 30 September 2027, subject to weather conditions and construction progress.

To ensure residents continue to have safe access across the area during the closure, a free shuttle service will operate daily, including weekends, from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The service will begin operating at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, 31 July 2026, with designated pick-up and drop-off locations identified on an accompanying map.

Project representatives acknowledged that the closure may inconvenience nearby residents and property owners but emphasized that the decision was made solely in the interest of public safety. Authorities have thanked the community for its patience and cooperation while the essential bridge replacement works are carried out.

The temporary closure marks a significant milestone in the Ganir Bridge Replacement Project, which aims to provide the community with a safer and more reliable crossing once construction is complete.
