Yap FM - Earlier today, May 18th, the Department of Health Services shared highlights on the training for healthcare staff provided by two Japanese medical specialists at the Yap State Hospital from May 6th to May 8th.
From May 6 to 8, two Japanese medical specialists visited Yap State Hospital and CHC as volunteers to provide educational training for healthcare staff.
Mr. Handa, a hospital management specialist, visited various hospital departments and discussed with staff members to better understand the hospital environment and daily challenges. He also delivered a presentation to all hospital staff on “5S-KAIZEN-TQM,” a Japanese approach to workplace organization and quality improvement. The training focused on maintaining clean, safe, and organized healthcare environments to improve patient safety, healthcare quality, reduce waste, and lower costs.
Mr. Nagao, an oral cancer specialist and oral surgery instructor, provided training for dental staff on oral cancer diagnosis and treatment techniques. He also gave a lecture to healthcare workers on “Oral Cancer Control,” including the relationship between betel nut chewing and oral cancer, as well as the importance of early screening and detection.
The CME (Continuing Medical Education) sessions were also broadcast online, allowing healthcare professionals from across the Pacific region to participate. In addition, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) volunteers from other states and Pacific Island countries joined the sessions and learned together.
This educational visit provided an important opportunity to strengthen healthcare services in Yap and support the health of the community.
