Yap, FM - This week, the local health department reported a total of 7 diarrhea cases, all from the OPD Main Hospital. This marks the third consecutive week that diarrhea cases have remained at alert level. The cases are believed to be caused by infections, although one tested case showed no specific pathogen. There has also been an increase in Influenza-Like Illness (ILI), with 17 cases reported: 11 from OPD Main Hospital, 1 from Eauripik Dispensary, 5 from Lamotrek, and 1 from Satawal. No lab tests were done to confirm these flu-like cases.
Clinics that were sent in reports this week include OPD Main Hospital, Eauripik, Lamotrek, and Satawal Dispensaries. No cases were reported for other common syndromes such as acute fever with rash, prolonged fever, dengue-like illness, severe respiratory infections, or other unusual health events. Lab testing this week identified 12 cases of Chlamydia, 3 co-infections of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, and 1 case of MRSA, a bacteria resistant to some antibiotics. The health department urges everyone to continue practicing good hygiene and to seek medical care if feeling unwell.
