Public Hearing Held on Bill No. 11-162 to Reduce Capital Requirement for Certain Foreign Investments

Yap FM - The Committee on Resources, Education and Development (RED) of the Eleventh Legislature of the State of Yap held a public hearing Friday, August 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Yap Legislature Chamber on legislation that proposed reducing the capital requirement for certain foreign investments in the state.


The hearing focused on Bill No. 11-162, which sought to amend Title 22 of the Yap State Code by revising Sections 303, 305, and 307 concerning the Yap Foreign Investment Act.


The proposed legislation would have reduced the amount of capital required for a foreign investment when the foreign investor was a professional. The bill also included provisions for other related purposes.


The public hearing was held on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at the Yap Legislature Chamber.


Those identified as witnesses included the Attorney General, the Chief of Commerce and Industry, and members of the Foreign Investment Permit (FIP) board, along with the proponent of the Bill, Senator Anne-Marie Laamar.


The hearing gave the committee and participating government officials an opportunity to discuss the proposed amendments and consider their potential implications for foreign investment requirements in Yap.
