Remathau Community Takes Part in July 4th Parade

Tuesday, July 7, 2026 /// DYCA PIO

Yap FM - The Remathau Community of Hawaii proudly took part in the Hawaii County July 4th Parade, sharing their traditional dances, culture, and community spirit. Known as the "People of the Ocean," members of the Micronesian diaspora came together to celebrate their heritage and honor their roots.

The parade featured both young people and elders performing together, showing that their culture remains strong even while living far from home. The event highlighted the importance of passing traditions from one generation to the next and keeping Micronesian culture alive.

During the celebration, some community members also spoke about current discussions on constitutional rights and the participation of Micronesians living overseas in public office. They shared their concerns about proposed rules that could limit the ability of diaspora members to run for elected positions despite their continued support and contributions to their home communities.
