Senator John F. Taweryan Sworn In to Represent Woleia in Yap State Legislature Thursday, May 29, 2025, /// DYCA PIO

“So, my congratulations to, well, the soon-to-be senator, who had won the election, and we were also fortunate that we were in Palikir asking the President before he came here and Secretary of Justice Bacalando to divert that patrol boat heading for Yap main island to stop in Woleai to bring in the ballot boxes here. That was very instrumental for the boat to bring here to make sure that everything is all okay.” Lieutenant Governor Itimai said during the ceremony.

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM, the Yap State Legislature Chamber held the official swearing-in ceremony for Mr. John F. Taweryan as the newly elected Senator of the 11th Legislature. On May 26, 2025, the Election Commissioner communicated that he had certified the Special Election held on May 15, 2025, in which Mr. Taweryan won the seat for District 3, representing Woleai. Chief Justice Manmaw administered the oath of office, marking the commencement of Senator Taweryan’s tenure. He will serve the remaining 1 year and 7 months of the 11th Legislature’s term.

The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant Governor Itimai, Speaker Figirlaarwon, Finance Committee Chairman Talimeisei, Finance Chairwoman Laamar, Health & Welfare Committee Chairman Bamog, as well as representatives from the Council of Pilung and the Council of Tamol. Former Congressman Isaac V. Figir and Mr. Taweryan’s family were also present.

This occasion marked the continuation of the State’s practice of democratic governance and the transition of leadership within the Yap State Legislature.
