...INVEST 90W NOW THE SUBJECT OF AS A TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION
ALERT NEAR CHUUK...
A tropical disturbance known as Invest 90W near Chuuk has strengthened and is now under a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert, meaning a tropical depression could form within the next 24 hours.
Forecasts show the system gradually strengthening over the next several days as it moves west- northwest through western Chuuk State toward eastern to east-central Yap State, with a passage south of Guam.
For Yap State, the system may bring locally heavy rainfall, strong winds, and hazardous seas. Rainfall amounts of 4 to 8 inches, with locally higher amounts, are possible from eastern Yap State westward, with impacts most likely through early Monday morning. Areas most likely to be affected include Pikelot, West Fayu, Gaferut, Faraulep, Fais, and Ulithi, with possible impacts extending to Satawal, Lamotrek, Olimarao, Ifalik, Eauripik, Sorol, and Yap Proper.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the Yap Weather Service Office, local emergency management, and the National Weather Service Guam over the next several days.
