Yap FM - A Special Weather Statement was issued today, May 27th, at 1:55 pm. The following message is from the Yap State Disaster Coordinating Office.
(TROPICAL AND MONSOON DISTURBANCE 99W)
A DEVELOPING DISTURBANCE WILL BRING HEAVY DOWNPOURS, GUSTY WINDS, AND CHOPPY SEAS IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS…
A tropical disturbance, known as JTWC`s Invest 99W, has shifted northwest to near 8.9N137.2E, approximately 74 miles west-southwest of Yap proper.
It is subject to a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert (TCFA) by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), meaning that development into a significant tropical cyclone is likely within 24 hours.
99W remains entrenched in a developing monsoon pattern, with moderated to strong monsoon southwesterly along the southern half of the disturbance. The circulation is gradually consolidating with scattered to widespread showers over the next few days.
As Invest 99W begins to lift north-northwestward, a developing monsoon tail will form on the south side over the next few days. High surf and a small craft advisory have been issued until Friday.

WHAT- Large breaking waves of 7-10 feet.
WHERE- South and West facing reefs.
WHEN- Until Friday.
*ADDITIONAL DETAIL- As Invest 99W continues to form just west-southwest of Yap proper, surf conditions will deteriorate through Friday as south-southwest to westerly winds and swells develop south of 99W and along the monsoon surge and tail.
