Yap FM - On June 26th, the GEF7 FSM Land Degradation Neutrality Project Yap-based team shared highlights on the official endorsement of the Tamil–Gagil Demonstration Site Land Management Plan by the Chiefs and Councils of Tamil Municipality and Gagil Municipality.
The endorsement was formalized during a signing ceremony held on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the Yap Sports Complex. The event brought together community members from both municipalities, representatives of the Yap State Government, and key stakeholders to witness this important milestone in advancing sustainable land management and environmental stewardship in Yap State.
The endorsed Land Management Plan represents a significant achievement under the Global Environment Facility Phase 7 initiative implemented through the GEF7 FSM Land Degradation Neutrality Project. The plan sets out a framework for improving land use practices, strengthening ecosystem resilience, and supporting long-term environmental sustainability within the Tamil–Gagil demonstration site.
A central role in the development of the plan was played by the Tamil–Gagil Community Land Management Working Group (CLMWG), comprised of six members—three representatives from each municipality—appointed by their respective Chiefs and Councils. The CLMWG worked closely with the GEF7 Project team and the State Land Management Working Group to support the planning process.
The CLMWG will also play a key role in supporting implementation, monitoring, adaptive management, and risk and impact mitigation activities within the demonstration site, ensuring effective execution of the Land Management Plan over time.
