The Department of Health held a meeting on the importance of the 5S Activity Declaration

Tuesday, March 17, 2026, /// DYCA PIO

Yap FM - On Friday, February 27, a briefing on the importance of the 5S approach was delivered by Public Health JICA nurse volunteer Yuka Segawa during the executive meeting at Yap State Hospital.

Following the presentation, the Hospital Director, Theo Thinnifel, and DHS board members expressed their agreement and signed the declaration, officially launching the 5S initiative at Yap State Hospital.

The 5S method, originally developed in Japan, is a workplace improvement approach based on five principles: Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain. It has been widely implemented in many organizations and is recognized as an effective method for improving workplace management, including in healthcare settings.

By improving the hospital environment, the following benefits are expected:

Improved work efficiency by reducing the time spent searching for items

Increased patient safety by lowering the risk of mistakes

Better care quality by allowing staff to focus more on patients

Reduction of losses from expired stock

Effective use of existing resources

Reduced unnecessary costs and waste

With these goals in mind, all staff at Yap State Hospital will work together to implement 5S activities.

The hospital will continue to improve its environment and strive to enhance the quality of healthcare services in Yap State.
