Yap FM - Last Wednesday, July 29, the Department of Resources and Development – Marine Resources Management Division (MRMD), in partnership with OneReef and MiCOAST partner cChange International, hosted a two-day Strategic Communications for Scaling Natural Resources Management workshop at the Small Business Development Center in Yap, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
The workshop brought together stakeholders to strengthen strategic communication efforts in support of natural resources management across Yap. Participants worked through developing SMART goals, analyzing target audiences, mapping communication networks, exploring local branding, and creating a practical implementation work plan. The agenda combined brief presentations with interactive group discussions to ensure the resulting communication strategy reflected the perspectives and priorities of Yap's stakeholders.
On the first day, participants explored the current context of natural resources management through a SWOT analysis, identified audience motivators, developed value messaging, and participated in branding exercises designed to strengthen outreach efforts.
The second day focused on mapping communication channels and networks, identifying the outreach tools and activities needed to engage communities effectively, measuring communication impact, and finalizing an actionable implementation work plan.
The workshop represents a collaborative effort by MRMD, OneReef, and cChange International to build local capacity for strategic communications and support the long-term scaling of natural resources management initiatives throughout Yap.
