Yap FM - This past Monday, May 11th, the Division of Youth Services, along with several members of the Youth Planning Committee, conducted a 3-day Youth Visit in Woleai.
Upon arrival, the Division of Youth Services, along with several members of the Youth Planning Committee, was warmly greeted by the people of Woleai with leis and big smiles.
After settling in, the Division of Youth Services, along with several members of the Youth Planning Committee, made their way to meet with the Traditional Leaders and the Youth Leaders to discuss their plans and activities that they will be hosting in the next few days.
On Tuesday, May 12th, the Division of Youth Services, including the members of the Youth Planning Committee, held a brief meeting with the Principal of the Neighboring Islands Community High School (NICHS), to discuss this year's Youth of the Year. After the brief meeting, the Youth Leaders gathered all the students from both Elementary Schools and High Schools in the High School classroom, and participated in a fun ice-breaker that included a Japanese Warm-Up Exercise led by the Japanese Volunteer working under the Division of Youth Services, Kenta Otsubo. After the Japanese Warm-Up Exercise, the Division of Youth Services presented a PowerPoint presentation, introducing the Division of Youth Services, its mandates, and how it can assist the youth groups. At the end of the presentation, the youth participants engaged in an activity that could improve the impact of the youth in the communities and their goals.
On Wednesday, May 13th, the Division of Youth Services held its last Youth Activity at the High School classroom. During the youth activity, several members of the Youth Planning Committee presented a short slideshow on Cybersecurity. The presentation explained what cybersecurity is and how one can protect oneself against the dangers of the internet. At the end of the presentation, the youth participants engaged in an activity that included various topics on Cybersecurity. The activity was mainly focused on what the participants understand about cybersecurity and how they can spread awareness amongst the community and their peers.
With the support of the Federated States of Micronesia Congressmen, Honorable Andy P. Choor and Honorable Chairman, Andrew Yatilman, and the Department of Education, Youth Visit in Woleai was made possible, and the Division of Youth Services was able to gather over 150 participants from all four islands in Woleai.
