Yap FM - Gagil Community School held its 79th Annual Graduation Ceremony on Sunday, June 7th, at the Gagil Community School field, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

The ceremony commenced with opening remarks and the welcoming of honored guests, faculty, families, and friends by Master of Ceremonies Michael Youken.

Following his remarks, Mr. Youken invited Father Rich to deliver the opening prayer.

At the conclusion of the prayer, attendees gathered toward the center of the field as underclassmen, dressed in traditional Yapese attire, performed the local dance known as Tey. Their performance showcased the community’s rich cultural heritage and traditions.

After the dance, the Master of Ceremonies requested that everyone remain seated as the graduates proceeded to their assigned seats.

Once the graduates were seated, Mr. Youken delivered words of encouragement on behalf of Municipal Chief Francis Fithingmow. In his message, he shared insights on Yapese customs and traditions and emphasized their importance as the graduates move forward into the next chapter of their lives.

The Master of Ceremonies then welcomed Senator Liyon Sulog, representing Speaker Nicholas Figirlaarwon and the Yap State Legislature. Senator Sulog congratulated the graduates on their hard work and encouraged them to continue striving for success and making wise decisions as they pursue further education.

Following Senator Sulog’s remarks, Director Dominic Fanasog, representing the Department of Education, and Governor Francis Itimai addressed the graduates. Director Fanasog highlighted the importance of education and strongly encouraged the students to continue their studies so they can one day contribute to the development of their communities and Yap State.

The ceremony continued with the presentation of awards and gifts by the Master of Ceremonies and School Board Member Martin Runiyol. Awards and gifts were generously provided by 24-7 Taxi, A’s Construction, ATM Store, MRCS–Yap Chapter, R&B Store, R-Services, and 123 Store.

Ms. Marinda T. Gamow then delivered a special address, formally congratulating the graduates and wishing them success in their future endeavors.

Following her speech, each graduate was invited to present a tribute and speech to their parents or guardians. This longstanding school tradition allows graduates to express their gratitude and appreciation for the patience, sacrifices, hard work, and support provided by their families throughout their educational journey.

After the tributes, the Master of Ceremonies and Director Fanasog presented the graduates with their diplomas.

Before the ceremony concluded, Ms. Evronica Gurwan delivered the farewell address on behalf of the graduating class. In her remarks, she bid farewell to her elementary school years and expressed her gratitude to the teachers and staff for their support throughout her eight years at Gagil Community School.

The ceremony concluded with a closing prayer by Father Rich, followed by a hang-up dance performance, marking the successful completion of another memorable graduation celebration at Gagil Community School.
