Yap FM - Last week, on Tuesday, April 21st, representatives from the National Federated States of Micronesia Department of Health and Social Services conducted a 3-day workshop at the Department of Health Services Conference Room.
This workshop included discussions of Family Protection in Yap, Socialize the Gender Equality Policy, Discuss the review of the EVAWG Policy, the National Youth Policy, Child Protection, and the National Disability Policy.
The first day was conducted by the FSM Gender Program Officer, Jackson Joseph, regarding the Gender Equality Policy. Mr. Joseph emphasizes the importance of gender equity, social inclusion, and gender mainstreaming, aiming to provide tailored support and resources to address historical and social disadvantages. It also focuses on ending violence against women and girls, promoting economic empowerment, and ensuring legal protection under FSM law.
The second day was conducted by the FSM Child Protection Coordinator, Ms. Esmeralda Mudong. Ms. Mudong addressed the FSM implementation of several child protection policies and initiatives to safeguard children's rights and welfare.
The last day was conducted by the SPC Country Focal Officer for the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Human Rights and Social Development Division, Mr. George Isom, regarding the Disability Policies. Mr.Isom emphasized the National Policy on Disability, which aims to promote societal awareness and inclusion of persons with disabilities, and the Disability Insurance Act, which provides benefits for individuals who are fully insured and disabled.
The FSM Human Rights Coordinator, Mr. Sebastian T. Tairuwepiy, also addressed the National Youth Policy. The National Youth Policy promotes youth development and engagement. These policies focus on fostering collaboration, sustainable development, and addressing critical issues such as social, environmental, and economic resilience. These policies reflect the FSM's commitment to long-term growth and sustainable development, with a focus on inclusivity, sustainability, and infrastructure.
