Yap FM - Last week, Friday, May 15th, the Public Health Immunization Program and the Cancer Program teamed up to visit 8 schools to administer the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine to girls in grade 5.
A total of 28 students received their second and final HPV vaccine dose, completing their two-dose series from Bael (2), SDA (3), Tomil, Maap (1), Gagil (2), Dalipebinaw (2), North Fanif (2), and CMS.
All the girls were given a shirt with a colorful tribal design, reminding them of the importance of vaccination as the first line of defense against disease.
The Public Health Immunization Program and the Cancer Program extend their appreciation to all the students for completing their vaccine doses, along with their teachers for their continued support and encouragement, and the girls for getting the HPV vaccine.
Also, include the parents and guardians for providing permission to administer the vaccine, and last but not least, the vaccination team for taking the immunization service to the schools for our young girls in collaboration with the Yap Department of Education.
The vaccine helps to keep them safe from the two deadly HPV strains (type 16 and 18) that cause 70% of cervical cancers worldwide.
