The Yap State Governor signs a Proclamation, hereby declaring September 2026 as National Recovery Month

Wednesday, September 02, 2026 /// DYCA PIO

Yap FM - Yesterday, September 1st, Yap State Governor Francis Itimai signed a proclamation at the Department of Health Courtyard, declaring September as the National Recovery Month.

In the proclamation, Governor Francis Itimai stated, “I hereby call upon all residents, civic agencies, healthcare providers, and businesses in the State of Yap to observe this month with appropriate programs, activities, and public awareness campaigns that support recovery and healing.”

Mental health and substance use disorders affect communities across the nation. With commitment, understanding, and support, individuals experiencing these challenges can begin and continue a journey toward improved health, wellness, and recovery.

Recovery Month, observed each September, celebrates the people and communities that make recovery possible. It embraces the message “Recovery is for Everyone: Every Person, Every Family, and Every Community.”

This year’s theme, “Recovery Happens Together,” highlights the vital role that connection, community, and shared support play in the healing and recovery journeys of individuals and families.

The impact of mental health and substance use disorders is also evident in Yap’s local community. An estimated 271 people in Yap are affected by these conditions, while more than 50 individuals have reclaimed their lives and health through recovery from mental health and substance use conditions.

Recovery Month provides an opportunity to increase public awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders. It encourages community members to recognize the signs and symptoms, reduce stigma, and support those who may need recovery services.

The month-long observance also emphasizes that recovery is possible and that no one should have to face the journey alone. Through education, compassion, and access to appropriate support and services, communities can help individuals and families move toward healthier and more fulfilling lives.

National Recovery Month is more than an awareness campaign—it is a call to action. It encourages Yap’s residents, organizations, healthcare providers, businesses, and community leaders to stand together, support recovery, and create an environment where people feel safe seeking help.
