Yap FM - Yesterday, May 25th, during Memorial Day, the Yap Veterans' Association held a Memorial wreath-laying ceremony with the Oceania Engagement Team-FSM, U.S. Navy Seabees, U.S. Veterans of Yap, and Yap Gold Star Family members at the Colonia Public Park at 12:00 pm.
This event is held every year to commemorate and pay respects to the Yapese men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
The tradition dates back to the Civil War era, when communities began decorating soldiers’ graves with flowers, evolving into formalized ceremonies at national cemeteries and local memorials.
Wreaths symbolize respect, remembrance, and gratitude, and the act of laying them is a gesture of tribute to the sacrifices made for freedom.
