Yap FM - This past Monday, April 6th, the Yap Workforce Enrichment Division, under the Department of Resources and Development, initially started its two specialized workshops empowering local talent through traditional craftsmanship at the Yap Living History Museum, with 10 dedicated trainees to map out the journey ahead, gathering all the essential materials for a successful season of creating.
These two specialized workshops include weaving traditional women's and men's baskets (Yungwol nge Soway) as well as grass skirts (Ong). It also features training on the construction of local fishing equipment (Yanup, Sonum, K'ef).
These two specialized workshops are not only a learning opportunity for community members, but are also a way for community members to engage and support one another in preserving the culture and traditions from grass-skirt making to constructing local Yapese fishing equipment.
