Yap, FM - Health officials are alerting the public about an increase in diarrheal cases this week, which has now reached the warning level. A total of 6 cases were reported, 4 from the Main Hospital's outpatient department with illnesses like general diarrhea, gastroenteritis, giardiasis, and amebiasis. One case each was also reported from Tomil Community Health Center and Eauripik Dispensary.
Alongside this, there has also been a rise in flu-like illnesses, with 17 cases in total. Most of these (16) were seen at the Main Hospital, while 1 case was reported at Tegailap Dispensary. The flu-like symptoms included infections like upper respiratory infections, influenza, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, and sore throat. Health facilities that submitted reports this week include the Main Hospital, Tomil CHC, Eauripik Dispensary, and Tegailap Dispensary.
Lab tests also found several infections, including Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Trichomonas, Hepatitis B, different types of E. coli, Shigella, Rhinovirus, and Sapovirus. Health officials urge everyone to wash hands often, drink safe water, and visit a clinic if feeling unwell.
