Yap FM - Yap Communicable Disease Report for EpiWeek 18, covering the period from April 27 to May 3, 2026. This report provides a comprehensive summary of syndromic trends and activities reported from 23 sentinel sites across the state, including laboratory-confirmed cases.
Total Encounters: 592 patient encounters were reported across 23 sentinel sites.
Diarrhea (On Alert since Week 14, dipped briefly in Week 15, and persisted for three consecutive weeks at alert status):
12 cases were reported: OPD Main Hospital (11), Nimgil CHC (1). Laboratory confirmation: 9 confirmed positive for diarrheal pathogens: Norovirus, Rotavirus, Salmonella, Giardia lamblia, Plesiomonas shigelloides, and four E. coli groups (EAEC, EPEC, ETEC, Shigella/EIEC). 7 patients presented with co‑infections, with Norovirus emerging as the most frequently detected pathogen, affecting patients with ages ranging from 1 to 75 years of age.
Influenza-Like Illness (ILI): One case reported at the OPD Main Hospital. No influenza testing was conducted this week.
Dengue‑Like Illness (DLI): 5 cases reported: All encountered by Laboratory confirmation: 4 confirmed positive for Leptospirosis, 3 aged 46 and one aged 56, highlighting a cluster of infections among middle‑aged adults.
Total Syndromic Cases: 18 cases reported across all sentinel sites.
Note: Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease (HFMD) No cases reported this week.
Cumulative case count remains at 85 cases reported, 94% being children aged 0 to 11 years of age.
