Friday, October 09, 2026 /// DYCA PIO
Yap FM - During EpiWeek 40, 557 patient encounters were documented, with Diarrhea remaining on Alert status for the 7th consecutive week.
Diarrhea: Diarrheal cases increased from 15 last week to 23 this week, with OPD Main Hospital reporting 13, Mogmog 8, and Nimgil CHC 2. The age distribution highlights pediatric predominance, especially at age 12, with notable infant involvement and only isolated adolescent, young adult, and older adult cases. The burden was highest in Mogmog Ulithi (8), followed by Gagil (5), Weloy (3), and Dalipebinaw (3), with fewer cases in Tomil (2) and Rull (2), and single reports elsewhere. Of the 23 cases, eight mainland cases tested positive for enteric pathogens, most frequently Adenovirus (6), followed by Norovirus (3), with single detections of Campylobacter, EPEC, ETEC, and EIEC.
Influenza-Like Illness (ILI): ILI cases continued to rise for the third consecutive week but remain below threshold, with a total of 17 reported. ILI cases this week were concentrated in Ulithi Atoll (Ulithi Health Center 5, Mogmog Dispensary 4), followed by mainland OPD Main Hospital (5) and Lamotrek in the Outer Islands (3). No laboratory testing was conducted this week for respiratory illness.
Dengue-Like Illness (DLI): OPD Main Hospital reported three dengue-like illness (DLI) cases this week, with laboratory testing confirming one positive case of leptospirosis.
The Epidemic Curve below shows that the diarrheal outbreak began increasing substantially after EpiWeek 33, peaked at 90 reported cases in Week 35, and has subsequently declined. However, weekly cases remained above the established alert threshold, indicating ongoing transmission and the need for continued surveillance and prevention activities.
