Yap FM - On Friday, October 19th, the Yap State Environmental Protection Agency (Yap EPA), in coordination with the Yap State Public Service Corporation (YSPSC), has announced the lifting of the boil-water advisory issued on June 2, 2026, for Colonia and affected surrounding communities.
The advisory was lifted following the restoration of water treatment operations by YSPSC and the completion of water quality sampling and testing by the Yap EPA Water Quality Program at all previously identified locations covered by the advisory.
According to Yap EPA, YSPSC received the necessary water treatment supplies and resumed treatment operations several weeks ago. Subsequent water quality test results met the applicable standards for coliform bacteria, pH (hydrogen ion index), chlorine residual, turbidity, and E. coli.
Based on these satisfactory results, Yap EPA confirmed that residents and businesses in the affected areas may resume using tap water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and other normal household purposes without boiling it.
The communities covered by the advisory include Colonia to Balabat, Colonia to Ngolog, Colonia to Yinuf, Colonia to Fanbuywol, Colonia to Maa' (Weloy), and Colonia to Nimar.
Yap EPA expressed its appreciation to residents and businesses for their patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout the advisory period. The agency also acknowledged YSPSC's efforts to restore water treatment operations and address the water quality concerns.
The lifting of the advisory marks an important step in addressing the water quality concerns affecting Colonia and the surrounding communities. Yap EPA and YSPSC continue to encourage public cooperation in protecting community health and safety through efforts to maintain safe and reliable water services.
