Tuesday, October 13, 2026 /// DYCA PIO
Yap FM - Between October 2 and 8, 2026, a total of 16 new diarrheal cases were reported in Yap, bringing the cumulative number of documented cases to 256.
Of the new cases, nine were reported from Mogmog, four from the Outpatient Department (OPD) at the Main Hospital, two from Nimgil Community Health Center (CHC), and one case remains pending from Gagil CHC.
The two most recent patients admitted for treatment have been discharged, and there are currently no active admissions. The total number of admissions remains at 14.
Laboratory results during the reporting period identified Adenovirus and Norovirus co-infections in three of six positive cases, while two other cases involved E. coli co-infections.
Children under 12 years continue to account for a significant proportion of reported cases, representing 74.1% of the total. Adolescents accounted for 12.4%, while adults aged 18–59 represented approximately 20.8% combined. These findings highlight the disproportionate impact of diarrheal illness on younger age groups.
Although the epidemic curve shows that daily case counts have declined to low single digits since mid-September, reported cases remain above the alert threshold, indicating that transmission is ongoing.
In response, preventive measures and health information were shared with the Mogmog Health Assistant to help reduce the spread of diarrheal illness on the island. Community members are encouraged to maintain proper handwashing, practice safe food handling, and ensure drinking water is safe to help prevent further transmission.
