Yap Reports 200 Diarrheal Cases as Health Officials Urge Families to Take Precautions

Yap FM - The Yap State Department of Health is reporting an increase in diarrheal illness across Yap and some of the Outer Islands. As of September 16, 2026, there were 200 reported cases. Children made up most of the cases, especially those ages 0 to 11.
Health tests found several germs, including Rotavirus, E. coli, Giardia, and Salmonella. Cases were reported in several areas, with Rull having the highest number on mainland Yap. Some cases from Elato are still being checked.
Health officials are asking everyone to wash their hands, drink safe water, and keep sick children at home. People should give sick children plenty of fluids and seek medical help if they become very sick. Testing, treatment, and medicines related to the outbreak are free.
