Yap FM - The Cancer Program, in collaboration with the Division of Public Health and the Yap State Department of Health Services, held its first Men’s Health Week in seven years, from September 7–11, 2026, after the event was suspended due to COVID-19.

The week-long health campaign aimed to screen at least 100 men aged 18 and older. A total of 170 men participated, with 144, or 84 percent, receiving one or more cancer screenings.

The screenings included oral, colorectal, and prostate cancer checks. Health workers identified nine men with abnormal findings during oral cancer screenings and five with physical examination abnormalities. Those individuals will require further evaluation and monitoring.

As an added incentive for participation, all 144 men who received at least one cancer screening were entered into a $500 raffle, with 20 winners each receiving $25. The Cancer Program will announce the winners on its page next week, along with instructions for collecting their prizes.

Health officials thanked the men of Yap for taking advantage of the free screenings and expressed appreciation to the health staff whose planning and efforts made the event possible.
