Yap, FM - The Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) Program in Yap State has completed four cultural documentation and preservation projects during this fiscal year.
The completed projects are:
A locally woven mat using pandanus leaves
A traditional tree ash scraper known as Ki’tham
A culturally significant bridge built in the Nimar area
A Yapese fruit and food basket called Gaparwaw
All projects were documented through video recordings and photographs. The physical items created during the projects are currently on display at the Yap State Historical Preservation Office conference room.
These projects contribute to the long-term goal of preserving Yapese cultural heritage and ensuring that traditional skills and practices are passed onto future generations.
