Yap, FM –The State Funeral for the late Governor Charles S. Chieng was held yesterday, July 2, 2025, at the Yap State Legislature chamber. The ceremony was a solemn and dignified event, marking the official farewell to the Late Governor.
The event was attended by high-ranking officials from the FSM National Government, including the Vice President of the Federated States of Micronesia and the Second Lady and his delegation, as well as dignitaries from the US Embassy in Pohnpei and U.S. Military officials from Joint Region Marianas, Guam. Additionally, Yap State leaders, Cabinet members, Council of Pilung, and Council of Tamol family members of the Late Governor were present as well as former governors and statesmen who were former senators and congressmen. Their presence underscored the importance of Governor Chieng’s contributions to the state.
Planning and execution of the funeral involved coordinated efforts across all government departments, with Cabinet level support ensuring the smooth implementation of ceremonial protocols. The unified participation reflected a strong sense of collaboration and respect within the state government.
The Division of Media and Protocol, under the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs, managed a live broadcast of the funeral service. Globally, the live broadcast of this historical event reached audience engagement of more than 14,000 interactions, with a full house and overflow tents of over hundreds of local individuals including U.S. Sailors and U.S. Army Soldiers.
Viewers tuned in from various countries such as the United States, Philippines, Canada, Japan and India. Within the United States, audiences from states such as Washington, Hawaii, Texas, Oregon, California, Nevada, and Arkansas joined the livestream. The funeral also drew participation from various parts of the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Palau, the Northern Mariana Islands particularly from Yap and other FSM States.
The ceremony served as a unifying occasion, bringing together citizens, leaders, and community members to reflect on and honor the life, leadership, and public service legacy of The Honorable Governor Charles S. Chieng.
