Wednesday, September 09, 2026/// DYCA PIO
Yap State, FSM - As of September 6, 2026, 54 new diarrheal cases have been reported, including 38 pediatric patients and 18 adults, with none requiring hydration.
The cumulative total of diarrheal cases is now at 141, including 85 at OPD Main Hospital, plus 3 from Faraulap, 6 from Lamotrek, 1 from Fais, and 46 newly received from Ifalik. An additional 39 Outer Island
cases remain indeterminate with no details and are excluded from the cumulative total until details become available.
Laboratory findings identified multiple enteric pathogens—including Rotavirus, Sapovirus, E. coli, Giardia lamblia, and Salmonella—often as co-infections in positive cases.
The accompanying epidemic curve highlights a sharp increase in cases on August 31, followed by fewer encounters in the subsequent days leading up to the date.
Other symptoms reported among diarrheal cases include vomiting as the most frequent co-symptom, followed by abdominal pain, fever, and nausea.
In spotting these cases, the largest burden was observed in Rull (41 cases), followed by Tomil (13) and Weloy (13), with smaller clusters in Gagil (7), Fanif (3), Maap (3), Kanifay (2), Gilman (2), Faraulap (3), Ifalik (46), Fais (1), and Lamotrek (6).
