Yap FM - Earlier this week, the Behavioral Health and Wellness Program successfully conducted a one-week Youth Summer Camp at the Milew Community Center, bringing together youth participants between the ages of 6 and 13.
The camp aimed to educate participants on important topics, including alcohol abuse, mental health, and peer pressure. Through engaging activities, interactive discussions, and age-appropriate learning sessions, participants gained a better understanding of the risks and impacts associated with these issues. They also learned practical strategies for making healthy choices, building resilience, and avoiding negative influences.
In addition to developing personal awareness, participants were encouraged to share what they learned with their peers, family members, and community members, helping to promote positive behaviors and increase awareness beyond the camp setting.
During the camp, representatives from UNICEF and the WASH Program provided an educational presentation explaining the meaning of "WASH" (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) and highlighting key practices that help individuals stay clean and healthy. Following the presentation, representatives invited volunteers to demonstrate proper handwashing techniques, giving participants a fun and interactive opportunity to practice healthy hygiene habits.
The Youth Summer Camp started last year with over 20 participants and provided a valuable learning experience for participants, equipping them with knowledge and skills that support healthy decision-making, personal well-being, and positive community engagement.
