Yap, FM - The Youth Services Division hosted a three-day Youth Summit and the first day began on Wednesday, August 7, 2025, at the Small Business Conference Room. The event began at 9:00 AM and concluded at 3:00 PM, with a total of 51 participants in attendance.
As part of its mission to inspire and empower young people, the Division invited several hardworking and successful individuals from the island of Yap to share their personal journeys and experiences with the youth.
The summit opened with a prayer and breakfast, followed by a performance of the FSM National Anthem by the COM Choir. Mr. John Waayan, Chief of the Division of Youth Services, then delivered the official welcoming remarks, after which participants engaged in an icebreaker activity.
A highlight of the morning was a presentation and panel session featuring Mr. Alex Gilfiley actor and current Director of Youth and Civic Affairs who shared insights into his career and answered questions from the participants.
Following the session, the COM Choir returned with a musical performance, and lunch was served.
In the afternoon, the youth engaged in another icebreaker game before hearing from professional boxer and Olympian Jennifer Chieng via Zoom. Her inspiring story further motivated participants to pursue their dreams despite challenges.
The day concluded with an activity the T-shirt Design Competition where participants expressed their ideas and creativity through art.
