Day 2 of the inaugural Yap State R&D Conference continued to see strong participation, with more than 100 attendees representing State Leadership, the private sector, students, community members, development partners, and other stakeholders.
The day began with special remarks from R&D Director Bernard Gorong, who emphasized the importance of investing in both our natural resources and our people as the foundation for Yap's future.
The morning session featured the Division of Agriculture and Forestry (DAF), led by Division Chief Tamdad Sulog and his team. Presentations highlighted the Division's programs, achievements, challenges, and recommendations, sparking meaningful discussions on food security and agricultural development. The session concluded with an invitation for participants to attend live breadfruit preparation demonstrations during Friday's R&D Outreach and Awareness Day at the Yap Living History Museum.
In the afternoon, the Workforce Enrichment Division (WED), led by Division Chief Leelkan Southwick, showcased its employment services, State Scholarship Program, workforce training initiatives, and traditional skills training programs. Discussions focused on workforce development challenges, including brain drain and creating opportunities for students and skilled workers to return home and contribute to Yap's growth. Participants were also invited to attend WED's Job Fair on Friday at the Yap Living History Museum.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for another productive day of learning, collaboration, and dialogue. We look forward to welcoming participants back for Day 3 starting at 10 am, featuring the Division of Marine Resources Management.
