The Division of Youth Services celebrates the successful completion of the 2026 Summer Rising Program

Yap FM - The Division of Youth Services held a closing ceremony on Friday, August 21st, to celebrate the successful completion of the Summer Rising Program and recognize the dedication, growth, and accomplishments of its participants.

The ceremony provided an opportunity for program officials to commend the six participating youth for their hard work and commitment throughout the program, while also recognizing the progress they have made toward their educational and career goals.

Acting Director of the Division of Youth and Civic Affairs, John W.K. Fillmed, along with Youth Awareness Officer Slatelynna L., congratulated the participants and acknowledged their efforts in taking important steps toward returning to school, pursuing career training, and preparing for the workforce.

Of the six participants who completed the program, four are enrolled to attend school during the 2026-2027 school year, while the remaining two plan to pursue opportunities in the trades. Their next steps reflect the program’s goal of helping young people identify pathways that align with their interests, skills, and future aspirations.

Launched in June 2025 under the Department of Youth and Civic Affairs, the Rising Program was established to support out-of-school youth by providing opportunities for workforce participation, skills development, and professional growth.

Through hands-on work experience, participants gain practical skills, develop a strong work ethic, and are introduced to a variety of career fields. The program also encourages participants to build confidence, take greater responsibility for their futures, and prepare for continued success beyond the program.

Following completion, the Division of Youth Services works with participants to identify and plan their next steps, whether that involves returning to school, pursuing additional education or trade training, or continuing their career development in the workforce.

To close out the ceremony, the Rising Program participants were presented with certificates of completion in recognition of their accomplishments and commitment to the program. The celebration concluded with a small potluck, where participants, staff, and officials gathered together to share food and celebrate the milestone.

The closing ceremony marked an important transition for the participants as they move forward with their individual educational and career pathways, carrying with them the skills, experience, and confidence gained through the Summer Rising Program.
