Woleai Community Accelerates Water Tank Installation Amid El Niño and Drought Conditions
Wednesday, October 14, 2026 /// DYCA PIO
Yap FM - The community of Woleai is accelerating efforts to complete the installation of water tanks provided through the Adaptation Fund (AF) Project as the island experiences the impacts of El Niño and ongoing drought conditions.
According to an update issued by the FSM Adaptation Fund Project in Woleai, the community has completed the installation of numerous water tanks. However, the current supply remains insufficient to meet the community’s water needs in the event of a prolonged drought.
Mr. Vincent Urumar, Adaptation Fund Project Coordinator on Woleai, reported that residents are working at an accelerated pace to complete the remaining installations in response to the worsening dry conditions.
The ongoing efforts underscore the importance of strengthening water security and improving community preparedness for drought and other climate-related challenges, particularly in remote island communities that rely on limited water resources.
The Adaptation Fund Project continues to support efforts to improve community resilience and access to water amid the increasing impacts of climate variability.
