Yap State Workshop on Inclusive Weather and Climate Services Underway
Monday, October 26, 2026 /// DYCA PIO
Yap FM - The Yap State Workshop on Inclusive Weather and Climate Services began earlier today, Monday, October 26, 2026, at the YapCAP Conference Room in Colonia and will continue through Friday, October 30.
The workshop is organized by the FSM Weather Service Offices in partnership with the Pacific Community (SPC) through the Climate and Oceans Support Program in the Pacific (COSPPac), the Pacific Disability Forum, and the Fiji Meteorological Service.
The five-day workshop aims to develop a Yap State Roadmap to ensure weather, climate, and early warning services are accessible and responsive to the needs of all people, including women, persons with disabilities, older adults, and residents of the outer islands.
Throughout the week, participants will review existing services, identify gaps, and establish priority actions for implementation over the next one to three years. Key sessions will focus on gender equality and social inclusion, disability inclusion, accessible communication, and community engagement.
The workshop will culminate in drafting and reviewing the proposed roadmap, allowing participants to discuss priorities, refine recommendations, and work toward endorsing a shared plan for improving inclusive weather, climate, and early warning services in Yap State.
Representatives from Chuuk and Pohnpei are also attending the workshop and may adapt the roadmap to meet the needs of their respective states.
Community participation remains central to the process, as local knowledge and experiences in receiving and responding to weather information will help shape practical and inclusive approaches. Participants are encouraged to attend all five days to contribute to the discussions and ensure continuity throughout the roadmap development process.
The workshop reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen accessible, inclusive, and community-centered weather and early warning services across Yap State and the Federated States of Micronesia.
