Youth Sports Day Brings Yap Youth Together Through Sports and Teamwork

Yap FM - The Division of Youth Services, in collaboration with COM-CRE and the Youth Planning Committee, hosted a Youth Sports Day on Saturday, September 26, at the Yap Sports Complex. The event brought together young people for a full day of sports, recreation, teamwork, and fellowship from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The event opened with participant registration, followed by remarks from Youth Sports Recreational Officer Maphrick Ruweday. In his opening remarks, Ruweday welcomed the participants and thanked everyone for taking part in the event. He also encouraged the youth to enjoy the activities while maintaining safety throughout the day.

Following the opening remarks, JICA Japanese Volunteer Kenta Otsubo led participants through a warm-up exercise to prepare them for the day's sporting activities.

The first competition of the day was table tennis, with five teams participating. Teams competed in 15-minute rounds before rotating and advancing to the championship round. Participants then took a 10-minute break before transitioning into indoor soccer, where they were divided into four teams.

At noon, participants took a break for lunch and refreshments provided through the support of COM-CRE and Oasis Bakery.

The afternoon activities continued at 1:00 p.m. with volleyball. The participants were divided into two teams, giving them another opportunity to demonstrate teamwork, sportsmanship, and friendly competition.

The event concluded with an awards presentation led by the Division of Youth Services, together with the Youth Planning Committee and COM-CRE. Winners from each sporting activity were recognized and presented with small gifts, including school supplies and other items.

The Youth Sports Day provided an opportunity for young people to stay active while developing teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship. The event also highlighted the importance of creating positive recreational opportunities where youth can connect with their peers and participate in healthy, community-centered activities.

The Division of Youth Services expressed its appreciation to COM-CRE, the Youth Planning Committee, Oasis Bakery, and all participants and supporters who contributed to the success of the event.
